Glossary of skateboard terms for all you newbies

According to Liz, for her AP Project

"Everyone knows how to do something. Whether it's playing a guitar, gardening, carpentry, knitting, painting with watercolors, caring for an iguana...we've all acquired certain skills in our lives, and it's only right that we should want to share the results of our hobby and also share what we've learned about how to do it well."

This is what Tripod suggested I put on this website.... wow, what a load of bullS**t

=) This is going to be fun

For me skateboarding has always been one of those things I really wished I could do. However, like many things, just because you want to do something, it does not mean you can. This was the sad truth for me. My few, and I stress few, attempts at skateboarding were sad, pathetic, and pointless, even that might be an understatement as to how bad I was...err, correction, am at the sport. But it did not kill my love for the sport. Instead, I shifted from practice to observing from the side benches, and since then have learned a few things, and now thanks to Ms.Crombie forcing an evil project as a final grade on us, I learned a hell of a lot more. Damn her for succeeding in getting me to learn more after the AP final, this is where I shake my fist at her in fury, but at least it didn't have anything to do with English, rhetoric or some boring story where some guy talks about what a great writer he is while on a visit to hell. At least I was able to talk about something I actually car about, it that means something to me. This brings us back to the topic: skateboarding. Some say it is a reckless habit that should be discouraged, some say it is a crime, some say it is a fad, some say it is a subculture, and I say it is an art. Ok well, art in the form of a sport. Skateboarding allows a person to express their energy in amazing ways that defy gravity and get you from place to place without walking like everyone else. You get to push yourself across the concrete or blacktop and jump down curbs or grind on rails, and for the exceptional, you get to grab some air off an awesome jump or half pipe. Any of this sound foreign to you? Well, don't feel left out, because despite its continual growth over the past decades, many people don't really know much about the sport outside of those who practice it. Well I cannot tell you much, because I am still a baby when it comes to this extreme sport, but I can offer a feeble attempt at some kind of explanation or a basic introduction if you are so inclined.

I wish I could that.... but then again, if i could, I wouldn't be sitting here typing about it, I would be out doing it.
